Several cases of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) have been confirmed in India, affecting both infants and the elderly. In Bengaluru, infants aged 3 months and 8 months were detected with the virus, while the latest case involves an 80-year-old man in Ahmedabad.

India has detected seven Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases. Testing costs between Rs 3,000 and Rs 20,000 in Delhi. HMPV, a respiratory virus, usually causes mild symptoms. Severe complications can occur in infants and older adults.

India's first case of HMPV was identified in Karnataka earlier this week. Since then, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Gujarat have also reported HMPV infections. While HMPV is not a new infection, the current outbreak has raised alarm bells due to a high number of cases in China.

Assam has reported its first case of Human Metapneumovirus detected in a 10-month-old infant. The infant has been admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh and the doctors said his health condition is stable.

Gujarat reported another case of HMPV or human metapneumovirus infection in Ahmedabad city on Thursday, January 9, after an 80-year-old man tested positive for the respiratory virus. This is the first case in India where an elderly has been found infected with HMPV.
