The cyclone is expected to cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around 30 November morning as a depression with a wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph.

The IMD has issued a warning for heavy fog in North India in the late night and early morning hours until November 30. Alongside there is a red alert for heavy rainfall in southern parts of India

The Puducherry government announced closures for November 29 and 30, affecting both government and privately managed institutions.

Meanwhile, Cyclone Fengal has already caused massive damage in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district, with heavy rainfall submerging paddy crops in over 800 acres of land. Farmers in affected areas, including Kamashwaram, Virundhamavadi, and Pudupalli, are facing distress as their crops are completely submerged.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of ongoing rainfall and advised precautions to prevent flooding and waterlogging.

Cyclone Fengal is gaining strength over the Bay of Bengal. Local administrations are finalising preparations in response to heavy rain warnings for Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh

Due to heavy rain, the Chennai district collector declared a holiday for schools on Friday. Chengalpettu district also followed suit. The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is projected to weaken without forming Cyclone Fengal.

With Cyclonic Storm 'Fengal' approaching the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, a senior IMD official said that there was will be fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of the state.
