A distressed whale beached at the Jersey Shore on Tuesday afternoon was euthanized after marine biologists determined it was in too poor of a condition to be returned to the water.

The Minke whale was humanely euthanized as its prognosis was poor and was unlikely to survive, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center said.
