Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips reveals that the prequel was greenlit the second that Dexter: New Blood officially ended.

Original Sin, a prequel that will take us to the beginnings of the famous serial killer. The mystery drama from Paramount+ with Showtime, starring Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter, promises to explore the origins of the character and how he became the criminal we all know.

Phillips, 66, who spoke to The Post at the show’s premiere on Wednesday night in New York, lovingly calls the new iteration a “family show for a serial killer,” noting that “there’s a lot of father-son stuff going on here.”

Dexter, the Showtime drama which stars Michael C. Hall as a serial killer with a strict moral code, has a complicated legacy. It’s a show that was hugely acclaimed in its early seasons, earning multiple Emmy nominations and a couple of wins, but has one of the most widely hated finales of all time.

Dexter’s storyline in the OG show left him hiding out as a lumberjack after his stepsister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter), was killed off. But in “New Blood,” it was implied that his life had ended, so they decided to opt for another spinoff instead.

Dexter: Original Sin has set up the sequel series, Resurrection, but it has the potential to run for multiple seasons alongside it.
