Texas Tech and Arizona were locked in on a tough, physical game for 35 minutes Saturday. Neither team was able to break away until the Red Raiders ran away from the Wildcats to earn their first Big 12 win in Lubbock this season. Here are three takeaways from Texas Tech’s 70-54 win:

Hawkins had eight 3s through his first 10 games at Tech, but has started a breakout from beyond the arc, which started against UCF on New Year’s Eve. He also knocked down four against Utah and it continued against the Cougars. Hawkins drilled six shots from deep, accounting for most of Tech’s shots from three, en route to his 22-point performance.

Elijah Hawkins poured in 22 points, and Darrion Williams added 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists as the Red Raiders handed the Cougars a fourth straight loss.

Arizona got on a plane Friday afternoon for Lubbock but left its offense back in Tucson. The Wildcats had their worst offensive performance of the season, particularly down the stretch, failing to score over the final 5-plus minutes of a 70-54 loss at Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon.
