Firefighters were getting the upper hand on the Canyon Crest Fire, burning between Jurupa Valley and Fontana. As of Sunday evening, fire officials said the brush fire had burned 284 acres but is 95% contained.

The Canyon Crest Fire was first reported at around 5:30 p.m. in the area of Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department. The fire was burning south of Highway 60 near Canyon Crest Drive in Riverside County.

A growing brush fire prompted officials to issue evacuation warnings Thursday evening to parts of Fontana, a suburb straddling San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The Canyon Crest fire began as a 100-by-100 foot patch of burning brush in the area of Canyon Crest Drive and Weeping Willow Lane in Fontana,
