The Red Wings begin a four game Western road trip in Edmonton, looking to improve on their last trip away from Little Caesars Arena

The Red Wings and the Oilers meet in Edmonton! The Red Wings are playing solid hockey, while the Oilers are playing like one of the best teams in the NHL. We continue our NHL odds series with a Red Wings-Oilers prediction and pick.

The Detroit Red Wings begin a four-game Western swing when they face the host Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

The Red Wings (24-21-5, 53 points) would tie Tampa Bay and Columbus for the final wild card spot with a win over the Oilers and a regulation loss by the Blue Jackets at Vegas, though technically Detroit would still trail based on points percentage and tiebreakers.

Lucas Raymond continues to grow each year and is Detroit’s top point producer. The speedy winger plays with a lot of grit and determination. Detroit will need every bit of it tonight as they face Edmonton.

The Edmonton Oilers welcome the rolling Detroit Red Wings to Rogers Place on Thursday, January 30, with the two clubs both sporting three-game winning streaks. Edmonton is a tough matchup for Detroit, and my Red Wings vs. Oilers predictions and NHL picks expect the Oil to make it four in a row convincingly tonight.

BOTTOM LINE: The Edmonton Oilers are looking to keep a three-game win streak alive when they host the Detroit Red Wings. Edmonton is 32-15-3 overall and 18-8-1 at home. The Oilers have a 17-5-2 record when they commit fewer penalties than their opponent.

Mattias Janmark scored a goal… On a goalie.  A tying goal in the first period by Janmark was his first goal with a goalie in the net since June 24th of last year.
