Syria’s rebels have begun to encircle Damascus in a major threat to the survival of the regime of Bashar al-Assad. “Our forces have begun the final phase of encircling the capital, Damascus,” said Hassan Abdel Ghani, a commander with the Islamist-led alliance that launched the offensive.
