The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2025 runs from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. Under the United States budget process established in 1921, the US government is funded by twelve appropriations bills formed in response to the presidential budget request submitted to Congress in the first few months of the calendar year.

Jan 21, 2025 · CBO projects mandatory spending (including interest) will continue to comprise by far the largest share of the budget. It will increase from 74 percent in 2025 to 78 percent of the budget in 2035. In CBO’s projections, the federal budget deficit in fiscal year 2025 is $1.9 trillion. CBO estimates that discretionary funding under the President’s budget in 2025 would be $1.79 trillion, $43 billion less than the amount projected in CBO’s baseline (see Table 3). In 2026 and 2027, appropriations under the President’s budget would decline.
