  1. The Washington Redskins logo is based on the design on the five-cent coin Buffalo nickel. A redesigned 1972 version was proposed by Walter Wetzel, who led Blackfoot Confederacy. Initially, the Indian character in the team’s emblem was a tribute to the coach William Henry Lone Star Dietz – a white man posing as a Native American.
